“It’s Complicated” really sums up the relationship that you have with your ex-spouse when you have kids. Regardless of how bad things seem to be between you and them, there are certain moments in your kid’s life that you just “have” to share with your ex. These moments include graduations, weddings, the birth of grand children and more trying moments like divorces, deaths and personal crisis. In this movie the complicated nature of divorced family dynamics is superbly explored.
Written and directed by Nancy Meyers, who was also responsible for “Something’s Gotta Give” and “the Holiday,” this film stars heavy hitters like Meryl Streep, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. This film also includes many up-and-coming younger stars such as Lake Bell, Hunter Parrish and Emjay Anthony. Released on Christmas Day in 2009 this romantic comedy has a running time of just under two hours. It was released by Universal Pictures.
The premise of this film is that Jane, played by Streep, “hooksup” with her ex-husband during the celebration of their son’s graduation. The complicated nature of their relationship is fueled by their divorce, their history together and the paths that each took after the divorce. One of the things that has made their prior relationship complicated is that her ex-husband married a younger woman after their divorce. This is a genuine look at how love, lust and family ties keeps life interesting to the very end.
The movie posters for “It’s Complicated” are very classy. They are clean and intriguing. They also feature the stars of the film Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin. If you are a fan of either of these actors then you will want to pick up your own copy.
