March is month that is going to be characterized by mostly thrillers and horror flicks. However, a few comedies and family films will be thrown in. The first picture being released today in theaters is Doomsday. This is a thriller created by director and writer Neil Marshall, who also created the movies The Descent and Dog Soldiers. This film stars Rhona Mitro and Bob Hoskins and is based on a storyline that focuses on the after math of walling off an entire country to prevent the spread of a deadly virus.
Another movie being released tonight is Funny Games. While the title suggests a comedy, this is actually a horror film that stars Naomi Watts and Tim Roth. Its storyline focuses around the horrifying experiences a family has while on vacation when they are targeted by two deranged men. This movie is rated R for strong language, violence and terror.
Thank God for Dr. Suess’ Horton Hears a Who! This is the only family friendly film being released today. It stars comedic geniuses Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell, and looks hilarious. While I haven’t liked the previous attempts of Hollywood to create live action Dr. Suess films, this animated version looks cute and worth having a look.
In addition to the above films, today’s movie releases also include: Sleepwalking and Never Back Down.
This week’s selection of new movies is going to be pretty dark. However, if you like B horror films or dark thrillers, then this week is your week. If you have kids, or if you just love animated films, then Horton Hears a Who! is your primary option.
