Nine is one of those Broadway musicals turned movie properties, like Mamma Mia and Rent. This one is a derivative of the Broadway musical from the creative mind of Maury Yeton-Arthur Kopit. While it seems like it is a musical comedy it really does not live up to that genre. Instead, it is more of a musical with some comedy elements.
The premise of the movie Nine is basically a trip through one man’s mid-life crisis of psyche. He has had a relatively successful life as a creative being. Throughout his life the main character has had multiple of female muses. However, at this turning point in his life his muses have lost their power of inspiration and now they are more of a source of creative strain and degradation. This is where the man’s problems develop. The former muses are now wanting attention from him, which seems to inhibit his ability to take the next step in his life.
Personally I enjoyed this film. I liked the music, the dancing and the creative way in which the process of working through a mid-life crisis was examined. However, official movie reviewers have somewhat mixed ideas about the quality of this Broadway adaptation, but don’t they always? Anyways, the criticisms of this film rest in the incomplete translation of the Broadway musical to the big screen. The storyline just did not seem to fit the format in this case. The accolades rest in the performances given by the actors and actresses, which include Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, Antonio Banderas and Daniel Day-Lewis.
While the film has somewhat mixed reviews, the reviews of its movie poster are not. These posters are vibrant, colorful and full of characters that you will want to preserve and collect.
