Now that Valentine’s Day is well behind us we can move on with the year. While I enjoy romantic comedies and romantic dramas every now and then, I also enjoy films that are just plain fun and ridiculous. Fortunately today several fun movies are being released including Charlie Bartlett and Be Kind Rewind. Other films being released today include: Witless Protection, Possession, Vantage Point, the Counterfeiters, the Signal and Duchess of Langeais.
If you are interested in a fun high school flick then go see “Charlie Bartlett.” The premise of this comedy is that the new rich kid in school finds his niche by becoming the school’s unofficial shrink. His office, the bathroom. Things get complicated as he dishes out both strong advice and prescriptions for strong medications. This film is very reflective of our so called “Prozac nation.”
While this is a high school themed film, it is rated R because of language, drug references and a little bit of nudity, so teens will need an adult to get in. This film was produced by Hornberg, Kimmel, Permut, Kidd, Longi and Road, and it stars: Anton Yelchin, Hope Davis, Jake Epstein and Dylan Taylor.
Newly released Charlie Bartlett will undoubtedly become a high school film classic in line with Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Sixteen Candles. However, this weekend promises great Science Fiction releases and great drama releases as well.
