At the 45th Chicago International Film Festival multiple international films were screened. This festival is known for screening the best foreign films in the world and this year was no exception. One of the most notable films was “the Long Night.”
“The Long Night” is a very dramatic film that is based on a storyline that revolves around the lives of three men and their families. The men have been imprisoned for the last 20 years on charges of political actions. Their families have been without their support and love for two decades. Upon their release the family members do not know how to react to the release. They have mixed emotions as they felt betrayed by the choices that these men made which got them arrested, however, they still love the men since they are family. The picture progresses as the men make their ways back home.
“The Long Night” is a film that came out of Syria. It is in Arabic, but has subtitles. I recommend that you watch it several times. The first time read the subtitles so you understand what the story is about and what storylines are being portrayed by each character. Next watch the film for the acting and the cinematic magic.
