Well, we are officially half way through summer vacation and by now your kids are probably saying that they are bored, or that they have nothing to do. If you want to give your kids something to do that does not involve television or video games, then consider an art project. This particular art project will involve cheap discount movie posters, pencils, a ruler, a T-square, poster board and erasers.
The first step is to have your kids select a discount movie poster that they would like to turn into a piece of art. These posters can feature a favorite actor or a scene from their favorite new or old movie.
The next step is to tape down the poster onto a hard flat surface. You can use a piece of plywood or a table or a sturdy piece of cardboard. Now add a grid to the poster. A one inch grid works well.
The second step is to layout the corresponding grid on the poster board. If you want the artwork to be the same size as the poster then use the same grid size, if you want it smalle then reduce the grid size and if you want it larger then you will increase the grid size.
Label each grid the same. Use letters to label the grid squares going from left to rigth and use numbers to label the grid squared going up and down.
Now all your kids have to do is recreate the shapes and shading in each grid square on the poster in the grid squares on their poster board.
When your kids are done have them gently erase the grid lines.
There are variations on this project. Your kids can select to recreate only a potion of the poster or they can start by creating a collage of images from posters.
